Town Council Meeting, Dec. 7th

To all those who signed our petition for a Legion Community Park:

On December 7th, 2022, the Town Council may vote on the future of the Legion property. There has been no public comment on the use of the property, they have not shared their preliminary plans, the Parks Greenways and Rec Commission has not been involved in the planning, a traffic impact analysis has not taken place, and the Council is attempting to move from “concept presentation” to a vote (during the holiday season) in under 9 days. They hope WE aren’t paying attention… are you?

What WE can do, together!

  • #1: MARK YOUR CALENDARS: Plan on attending (and ideally speak) at the December 7th Town Council meeting. We need your voice, we need your help, and we need you to show up and express your concerns. We will be wearing green and passing out Save Legion Park stickers before the event.
  • #2:  Ask a friend or neighbor to sign the Save Legion Community Park petition at https://www.legionpark.org today!
  • #3: Write a note to mayorandcouncil@townofchapelhill.org urging the council to seek the input of their own Parks Greenways and Rec Commission advisory Board and to hold a public forum where residents can hear each other.
  • #4: Urge the Council to slow their process down and allow time to properly review their future plans for the property and allow for public input!

We will learn for the first time what is in the proposed plan at an “information session” at the Town Library, Tuesday, November 29 (this is an information-only session – no public comment will take place). We will send an update after the meeting highlighting their proposed plans. It is essential that we pack the Council Chambers and you make plans to bring a friend or neighbor who cares about the park. We are running out of time, and this may be the only opportunity for us to voice our concerns.

Together, on December 7th, 2022, we will Help Save Legion Community Park.
